Description
The TQC Sheen Impact Test System is a precision laboratory instrument designed to assess the resistance of paints, coatings and surface treatments to mechanical impact. Impact testing helps determine how well a coating withstands sudden force, shock and deformation — critical properties for protective coatings, automotive finishes, industrial paints and high‑wear surfaces. The system provides a controlled method for dropping a defined mass from a specific height onto a coated test panel, enabling reliable and repeatable evaluation of coating performance under impact conditions.
This tester is widely used in quality control laboratories, formulation development and production testing to compare coatings, validate performance specifications and ensure consistency across batches.
⸻
How It Works
- Mount the coated test panel securely in the test frame or fixture.
- Select the desired impact weight and drop height based on the test specification or internal procedure.
- Position the impact mass directly above the panel surface.
- Release the mass and allow it to fall freely onto the coated surface.
- Inspect the panel at the impact site for cracks, delamination, chipping or other surface damage.
- Record results and compare to internal or standard.
This controlled impact method provides repeatable data for assessing coating resistance to sudden mechanical stress.
⸻
Key Features & Benefits
- Controlled impact testing for coating durability evaluation
- Adjustable impact weight and height to match test requirements
- Quick and repeatable test procedure
- Ideal for quality control and production environments
- Supports formulation development and performance comparison
- Robust design for frequent laboratory use
⸻
Direct vs Indirect impact testing
Direct impact testing (ISO 6272-1 / ASTM G14) applies the force directly onto the coated surface.
Indirect impact testing (ISO 6272-2 / ASTM D2794) applies force from the opposite side of the panel.
Both methods evaluate resistance to cracking, chipping, or delamination but are chosen based on the coating type and standard required.
Indirect impact testing (ISO 6272-2 / ASTM D2794) applies force from the opposite side of the panel.
