Description
The Manual Cupping Test is a simple, reliable method for assessing the flexibility and mechanical resistance of paint and coating films on sheet materials. By manually deforming the coated panel with an increasing amount of pressure, this test helps determine a coating’s ability to withstand bending and elongation without cracking or loss of adhesion. The handheld design offers a cost‑effective and easy‑to‑use solution for laboratories, quality control departments and production environments where quick flexibility evaluation is required.
This test is suitable for a wide range of substrates and coatings, providing valuable insight into formulation performance, protective behaviour and film integrity.
⸻
How It Works
- Calibrate the cupping tester according to your lab procedures.
- Place the coated panel in the clamp, coated side up, and secure gently.
- Slowly raise the punch using the handle until it contacts the panel.
- Continue the test until reaching the set indentation depth or until the first coating defects appear.
- Lower the punch, release the clamp, and remove the panel.
- Record the results for quality control or formulation evaluation.
This manual deformation method offers a quick and cost‑effective indication of coating resistance to mechanical strain.
